On Tuesday, Hector ai???Machoai??? Camacho, the former world-boxing champion was shot in his car in Puerto Rico. Another man, who was in the car, died from the gunfire, while the boxing star is expected to survive, though currently in critical condition.
The incident took place in the city of Bayamon, and Camacho was immediately taken to the trauma center in San Juan. Dr. Ernesto Torres, the hospital director, told reporters that Camacho was in a stable condition. However, doctors have expressed fears that the former boxer may be paralyzed from the shooting as the bullet, after striking his jaw, exited and hit and fractured two vertebrae.

Camacho was born in Bayamon, a city in the San Juan metropolitan area of Puerto Rico. In the in80s, Camacho won the world titles in the super lightweight, lightweight, and junior welterweight categories. With his recent fight at the age of 48 in 2010, Camacho has a career record of 79-6, including 38 knockouts.
Camacho has often been in drug and alcohol problems since early in his career. In 2007, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for a burglary in Mississippi. During his arrest during the burglary, the police also found ecstasy on him. He served only a year while the rest of the sentence was suspended, but he again did time for two weeks for violating his probation. Order
